The Transmitter
The Wächtomat transmitter is fastened to the mare via a breastplate and a surcingle. The halter makes it possible to position the sensor at the lower part of the mare's neck to achieve the best reading. Since the mare's freedom of movement is in no way impeded, even extremely sensitive mares or those who have never been ridden accept the transmitter without a problem.
It is virtually impossible to damage the transmitter. The operating elements and cable outlets are protected by a control panel that protrudes 30mm. In the event of an alarm, a succession of three tones will be sounded every 30 seconds, which are recognised by the receiver and reported as an alarm situation.
A thin cable functions as the transmitter antenna; it runs from the halter at the right side of the horse's neck (near the throatlatch area) down to its withers. The power is supplied by a 9 volt alkali-manganese battery. The unit cannot be operated with other batteries! The battery capacity is sufficient for several weeks or multiple births. Necessary battery changes are indicated on the receiver by an LED and a warning signal.
